Life on the Farm
August 2025
It was the spring of 2012 that my life took a big turn. At this time, I was living in Florida with my husband and our two children. I picked up the phone and called my parents, Doug & Jayne Benkendorf, in Oklahoma and told them I wanted to come back to my roots – to the farm.
At almost the exact same time, my father was planning to make big changes on the family farm and was looking for someone to run the show – so to speak. As they say, timing is everything! From this time on, I’ve been back on the farm in Breckinridge, Oklahoma.
Our first job was converting a wheat & stocker cattle operation into raising cattle for beef – and not just any beef – grass finished beef! I must say, this has proven to be a very rewarding turn in my life. As a child, I always loved animals, so it was natural that I would be with the cattle as my contribution to this new adventure.
Fast forward 13 years; BF Farms LLC, (Benkendorf Family Farms) is now a thriving business – and I’m doing what I love! Every morning, winter & summer, I get in either the truck or the Polaris & check on some 450 head of cattle located on 1,700 acres. For me, life can’t get any better!
Sure, there are some tough times. There is drought, there are below 0 days in winter, and there is death. But this is just living in nature and dealing with what you’re dealt. But I love it, being with nature, working with animals. I am SO lucky!
I have many stories to share with you, but these will come later. Today I just wanted to give you an overview of my life & how I got here.
Thanks for letting me share.
